first, we had trophy cupcakes and now there is yet another reason to whorange for seattle. last week, one of my fav stores, velocity art and design, launched the lab -- a monthly meet up event for the northwestern design community.
the guest of honor was beloved artist matte stephens. if you're not familiar with matte's playful, craveable, mid-century inspired illustrations, pay him a visit here and here, and pack some snacks because you'll be staying awhile.
in addition to his artwork, matte and his wife, vivienne, are devoted animal lovers. together, they provide safe homes, food, and medical attention for stray animals in need. their dedication to the winged and furry kingdom shines through in matte's work. his art paints a rich and welcoming world that is foxy, owly, and jam-packed with birds who sing in groovy, spellbinding color palettes.
i have to admit, the sight of a fox in a grandpa sweater makes me weak in the knees. and this little guy, i can't resist him...
to read a groovy review on the the lab event, check out mary t's report at shelterrific, which includes some fabulous pix such as this must have owl sculpture...
i repeat -- MUST. HAVE.

Oh, my dear, you are going to be personally responsible for what Sasha's and Gregory's room eventually (hopefully) looks like, what with some of these prints, the tree mural and the birthday dragon print. Please keep posting more of this stuff, so I can keep dreaming and planning!
