the magnificent 826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills.
if you've ever cruised down sunset blvd. in LA's echo park district, perhaps you've seen 826LA. you'd know it by its time travel mart storefront. yes, 826LA not only tutors emerging writers, but it sells time travel sundries as well. makes perfect sense once you realize 826's original location in san francisco doubles as a pirate supply store.
recently, our fabulous friends at poketo teamed up with 826LA to create a series of 13 wallets based upon short stories by 826LA's young wordsmiths. hailing from the "when wallets eat words" writing workshop, and headed by screenwriter james ponsoldt, each student wrote a short story and poketo's artists interpreted the stories into wallet art.
the wallet are available here or here for only 20 bux.
great art for a great cause! write on, darlings.
