"what a hoot" owl show: opening night at world of wonder's storefront gallery
last night, i boogied on down to world of wonder's storefront gallery for the opening reception of WOW's owl-tastic show "what a hoot: an artful discourse on owlism in contemporary society." the featured artist was clancy cavnar, who is legend for producing one piece of owl art per day. one per day, people!
owl-gasmic debauchery was had by all: an owlish go-go boy danced throughout the evening and passed out treats to appease late-night munchies; a rainbow display of craveable, vintage, ceremic owls (which originally functioned as aerosol can cozies in the 60s) lined the walls and window displays; hand-crafted cardboard trees sprouted to the ceiling; a fabulously feathered james st. james fluttered amongst the crowd with microphone in hand; and in celebrity news, a video loop of famous owlsters graced the back wall -- from woodsy owl, to harry potter's hedwig, to tootie roll's perky professor "mr. owl."
it was all owls, all the time.
{above: james st. james interviews my gal pal, jessy; below: project runway's darling, santino rice.}
and guess which noctural creature made it into world of wonder's "daily freak show" video montage? that would be yours truly! i flash by faster than a baby meerkat being snatched up in the night by the vicious claws of an eagle owl, so don't blink!

I wonder why they chose to just highlight this one artist when there is so much great owl stuff out there (lamps, sculptures, letterpress, silkscreening, etc.) I guess because this woman produces one piece of owl art per day? That's cool and all, but it seems like they missed an opportunity to really up the show a notch. I love your cameo in the video, though!

I just realized this gallery is associated with the TV company that makes some of my favorite shows. Love it and I love the owl-only art show theme!

Why does everything in LA look so fun once I've moved away from it. Nice to know you are there rubbing shoulders with my gal, Brandi C of Charm School, formerly of Rock of Love!
