Thanks Tula for recognizing the true news of the day. Thank you Maurice for every wild thing I've taught.

To add to my sadness at the loss of Maurice Sendak is the sadness that Sasha is frightened out of his wits by Where the Wild Things Are and will not let me read it anywhere within earshot of him. Terrified. Petrified. Cowering in a corner with his hands over his ears crying, "Please stop reading, Mommy; please, please stop reading." (I know this because I tried to read it again tonight in the hope that he had outgrown his fear. Not a chance.) It's one of my favorite children's books ever, and he does not share in the love. Sigh.
