he's crafty: MR. WHORANGE'S DIY valentine's day flowers

kittens, i'm one lucky gal.  not only is my man super foxy...he crafty, too. 

every valentine's day, we traditionally forgo reservations and gifts and instead make dinner and cards for each other.  however, little did i know my fellow was a master folder until i witnessed this...

this year, steve's card came in the form of orange origami lilies.  xoxo!  and since they're paper, i can keep them forever and ever and ever and ever.

thank you, steve!  not only are these flowers lovely, but they make your hair look fabulous.

modernica's pets on furniture contest

listen up, kittens!  our lovely friends at modernica are holding a pets on furniture photo contest.  grand prize winner receives a panty-dropping, fiberglass, rocker arm chair!  view today's entries here.

a peek beneath the WHORANGE tree

on xmas morning, i discovered this amazing card (see above) wedged into our aluminum tree.  as it turns out, my husband made the card for me as an homage to WHORANGE'S heroes.  inside was a lovely message "from our cats" and a yoga membership.  proof positive that steve truly holds the key to my heart.

in addition, we were fortunate to have a few splendid gifts swapped in the house of WHORANGE this holiday.  allow me to share...

whoranging for charley harper

welcome to my bedroom dresser.

above is one of my favorite charley harper serigraphs entitled "cottontail in cottonfield," which hangs lovingly above my squirrel ring holder and fancy plastic deer.  if you look at the print closely enough, you just may see a terrified rabbit camouflaged within the print.  nothing like waking up each morning to a collection of plastic, ceramic, and terrified wildlife.

curious to see how other folks hang their harpers, i joined the charley harper flickr pool.  below are a few of my fav findings.  enjoy and worship the brilliance which is mr. harper...

whoranging at the renegade craft fair in los angeles

over the weekend, i shimmied on down to the renegade craft fair to check out the latest and greatest in DIY wares.  it was renegade's first time in los angeles and they were looking pretty in their penthouse suite at the california mart downtown.  over 200 vendors set up shop along with DJs from KXLU who kept things groovy and raffles from sublime stitching and etsy who kept moving.

as for my personal purchases...

i've always been obsessed with tanya aguiñiga's felt birds, so i adopted this little red fellow and promised him a safe home away from cats and poachers.

ryan berkley of berkley illustration and his lovely wife, lucy, curated a craveable little booth filled with their signature well-suited menagerie displayed on prints, wallets, coasters, and keychains.  one critter in particular caught my eye -- a dignified, high-flying meerkat.

according to ryan, "you might think this guy is just your standard flying meerkat.  you'd be wrong!  he also plays piano, paints, draws, and he once owned the world's largest model porsche collection.  ask him about the time he played the keyboard while doing a double barrel roll."

needless to say, the meerkat is now mine.

of course, i couldn't come home without something special for the children, so i visited feline-goddess, mei zaums, of jake & micah and picked up some organic catnip sushi.

as always, i couldn't decide between maki and and handrolls, and as always...i choose maki.

the end result:  a meerkat shine and a cat who will love me forever and ever...as long as i keep bringing home the gorgeous goods.

darlings, i'm feeling under the weather today.  i can barely get dressed without the assistance of my robot, jean paul.  (ugh, and he's making me where those damn sensible shoes...again!)

i'll be back tomorrow.  miss you already!

creature comforts: the whiskas cat head bed

welcome to my office.

sitting by my window is the whiskas cat head bed.  i saw this craveable lounger online a year ago and had to have it.  after all, i want my cats to love me.

since the bed is completly sold out, not available in the US, and highly sought after, i had to get it via ebay UK.  yep, ebay UK, people.  i was whoranging hardcore, and when that happens, i will stop at nothing.

unfortunately, my cats, atticus and veruschka, were not impressed.   as with most cat beds, they much prefer the sleeping quarters of cardboard boxes, black coats, laptop keyboards, and in veruschka's case...our avocado, danish modern, living room chair...

so i went online to see who else owns a cat head bed.

as it turns out, the fabulous designers from the little friends of printmaking, melissa & JW, are proud owners.  but, it looks like their kitties prefer alternate sleeping digs, too...

damn, their cats are cute.  and how sweet is melissa & JW's pad?

life in the garden of WHORANGE

in honor of earth day, i stumbled out into my garden this morning and took pictures of everything that was not dead.  considering that half of these plants started off in seed packets, i'd say life in the garden of WHORANGE isn't too shabby.

RIP daffodils, freesias, dill, and lemon verbena.
