okay, here i go...after four days of crying and unkempt hair, i'm going to hop back on the WHORANGE saddle. i realized that nothing would disappoint atticus more than seeing me laying around in the same pajamas all week long, so it's back to the computer i go.
in the spirit of my kitty, i'm spotlighting the vibrant work of london-based spanish artist valero doval. valero's collages and illustrations are filled with color, wit, style, animals, vegetables, minerals, goodies, bunnies in eye masks, parrots with walking sticks, and all things craveable.
the only thing missing is a siamese cat with glitter boots. add that to the mix and valero's got himself a soulmate.
i cannot put into words how grateful i am for the love, empathy, and support i have received during this difficult time. all of your heartfelt comments and emails regarding atticus have provided much comfort, and your stories, thoughts, and wisdom have helped ease the pain of what feels like an endlessly tearful road.
i am so thankful to have a community of friends, family, and readers as lovely as you. your words are healing spots of sunshine.
xoxo
last night my darling kitty, atticus, passed away. she was 15 1/2 years old and the love of my life. for several years, she lived with a heart complication and
precarious seizures, but through it all, she was brave, enjoyed life, greeted guests with a purr and a sparkle, and slept under my arm every night.
i adopted atticus in san francisco and she became my little familiar and source of inspiration.
my heart is completely broken. i don't really know how to move forward from here, because my world feels so much darker with her gone. however, atticus taught me
many things. for one, she showed me how to find spots of sun in the darkest of
places (in her case, it was the kitchen window at 3:30 every day). i'm going to need a few days to process this and find those sunspots, but when i do, i'll be writing about them here.
i love you, my little chocolate point siamese. forever and ever.
just when i thought i was completely burnt out on the alphabet, jenn ski comes along and makes it exciting again.
street artist slinkachu creates a microscopic world where little hand painted people are placed upon urban streets and forced to fend for themselves.
sounds like a typical day in los angeles; however, slinkachu's narratives take place in london and norway.
designers pierre andre senizergues and gil le bon de laPointe use skateboard decks and skate parts to recreate iconic mid-century furniture for the skate study house. i first saw pierre and gil's decked out decks at the dwell on design show, and i gotta say, their goods are quite groovy.
but, what i really want to know is -- how come all of the skateboarders i dated had cable-spool coffee tables, cinder block bookshelves, and milk crate chairs for furniture?
(above: "astro clock" created with 12 skateboard wheels and bearings; "god father lounge chair & ottoman" composed of seven walnut laminated decks with cushions.)

i've earned two trophies in my lifetime. that's right -- two. i didn't even take steroids! i have no idea where my trophies are now, but if i found them, i'd spray them with primer, cover them with top coat, and display them like so...
perfect against a wood-paneled den wall. or not.
by the way -- what do you think i earned my two trophies in? go ahead, take a guess.
(thanks apartment therapy!)
i'm whoranging after these sexy and seedy snaps by blue citrus art. makes me want to vacation...in my leg warmers and panties.
i am obsessed with maps. by the sixth grade, i could name and identify every country in asia, europe, and south america, and central america. my favorite county was norway because it was shaped like a sperm.
so, imagine my glee when i came across the map-fabulous works of artist shannon rankin on more ways to waste time. using vintage maps, embroidered thread, glue, and paper, shannon explores the connections between geography, anatomy, and botany.
original artworks, prints, and limited edition prints are available at her selflesh shop on etsy. prices average around 45.00.
shannon also does commissions, which is beyond tempting. i may need to request two inter-connected hearts crafted from a vintage map of norway.
