graphic designer, illustrator, and tinkerer frank chimero began his playful, mid-century styled "states" project after realizing that california resembled a snuffed out cigarette. after sketching out california, he decided to take on the other 49 states as an ongoing project.
according to frank, the illustrations do not necessarily reflect the individual states' culture. instead, he focuses more upon the shape of the state and approaches each piece as a personal exploration in 2D form.
all i know is oklahoma has never looked so sexy.

Good god, those are to die for. I love the Illinois one. Too bad it's not my state. Ditto Arkansas. The Louisiana one is strangely apropos. (which I get to say since I spend a lot of time there)
