in 2006, artist lotte geeven released 1000 paper birds throughout the small alleyways and over the pavement of manhattan. the colorful birds were crafted from the pages of the NY times and mapped the route of the wind.
(please note...this is not a DIY project, people. please put down the scissors.)

I don't know how well that art project would go over in my hometown of Orange County, but I'm sure it was pretty!
