the italian-based collective, cracking art group, crafted these fabulous hare hoppers from old plastic water bottles harvested from landfills.
but the recycle cycle doesn't end there. in addition to making wasted plastic uber-fantastic, cracking art group will eventually destroy the plastic bunnies and reuse the plastic to resurrect their next art project.

artist kevin dart is the creator behind the craveable character yuki 7.
who is yuki 7? according to kevin, "yuki is the ultimate hip 60’s chick. she’s sexy, her clothes are to die for, and she can beat any man or woman in a game of cat and mouse. in the world of espionage, no one can keep a secret from her and no one can resist her charm."
now, poodles, i don't know much, but i do know this...when i grow up, i want to be just like yuki.
in kevin's upcoming book "seductive espionage - the world of yuki 7," various artists contributed tribute pieces to the sassy spy. from biker babe to underwater vixen, there is no doubt that this is yuki's world and we just live in it.

finally...the perfect perch for my favorite book of all time.
a tip of the tiara to you, annotation bookshelf!
mother earth is sensitive. treat her with care.
{via mark ryden's tree show.}
in honor of earth day, i wanted to lovingly tip my whorange tiara to seattle-based photographic artist, chris jordan.
i first learned of chris jordan last year, when his digital "trash" paintings were featured on the colbert report. chris's large scale works are composed of objects (usually debris) which equate to a particular level of american consumption.
for example, in this triptych "gyre," which is based on "the great wave off kanagawa," the painting's colors are composed of 2.4 million pieces of plastic, which equals the estimated number of pounds of plastic that enter our earth's oceans every hour.
in fact, all of the plastic in this image was collected from the pacific ocean.
from packing peanuts and cell phone trash to the number of breast augmentations performed each month, chris's paintings hold a hauntingly creative mirror to the degree our country consumes and wastes.
{above: "plastic cups" depicts one million plastic cups -- the number used on airline flights in the united states every six hours.}
{above: "toothpicks" depicts one hundred million toothpicks -- equal to the number of trees cut in the united states yearly to make the paper for junk mail.}
be sure to view more of chris's amazing work on his website.
on the heels of my new found papercuts obsession, my dear friend and favorite san franciscan cowboy, lewis, introduced me to the magnificent paper sculptures of his friend, megan brain.
click here to see an enlarged image of her work. trust me, kittens, it's worth it.
from fashionable cuts, to animals, to intricate international motifs, miss megan's mediums of choice are paper, "cartoon colors" cell vinyl, acrylic paint, and strong glue. four simple ingredients = must have whorange.
her delicate and colorful cuts can be perused here, and enjoyed as moving animation during the end credits of madagascar 2 and as the"count of the forest animals" on the groovy show yo gabba gabba.
counting has never looked better!
thank you, lewis, for bringing us into the world of megan brain. xoxo.
