born in cuba, raised in brooklyn, and schooled at cooper union in the 50s, jewelry designer art smith was truly one of a kind. crafting avant-garde jewelry inspired by everything from calder mobiles to the galaxy, smith knew how to perfectly drape a piece of silver sculpture on the body.
and, although being a gay, black, male jewelry designer in the 50s provided several challenges, smith succeeded in getting his work featured in vogue, harpers, and the new yorker, in addition to having it sold at bloomingdales.
modern. bold. ground-breaking.
wearable art, indeed.

musician matt glassmeyer found the perfect formula to dress his nashville porch rooftop: 350 damaged records + 350 nails + an undeniable vinyl fetish.
surprisingly, the roof has remained warped-free. makes sense since matt gave the records a spin in the sun before constructing his rooftop collection.
sounds (and looks) pretty groovy.

...and a crazy one at that.
have a wonderful weekend, kittens!

the divine peeps over at d*s and veer are throwing a "design your own alphabet contest" and i couldn't be more titillated. after all, fooling around with new fonts is a fantastic form of design foreplay.
the contest just started and there are 20 more entries to come, but so far, my faves are...
(above) "sweat pants."
(above) "burnt toast."
(above) "loose knot."
(above) "kern over."
pick your poison over at d*s and vote. viva la font!
and your hair looks terrific.
