Fashion maven Bernie Sanders inspired Balenciaga's Fall 2017 Menswear Collection, because that's what 75-year-old socialists from Vermont do.
Anyone else freaking out about this cray election? When I get panicked over the thought of "He Who Must Not Be Named" running our country, I do what my activist mama taught me and I get to work. Therefore, I'm dedicating this weekend to #GOTV.
As President Obama always says, "Don't boo. VOTE!" The opposition can't hear you boo, but they can hear you vote. In the same spirit, I say, "Don't cry. CALL!" Calling democrats in swing states and encouraging them to vote is not as scary as it sounds. You can do it from the comfort of your sofa or make it a phone banking party with friends! Sign up on www.hillaryclinton.com and see how easy it is to dial-a-Dem!
When calling, voting-themed attire and power pantsuits are optional, but highly encouraged.
i never played with dolls as a kid. but, times change, darlings. times change.
a few weeks ago, i stumbled across mel elliot's ziggy paperboy wonder book at book soup on sunset blvd. the book contains two david bowie paper dolls and 16 fabulous outfits ranging from freddie burretti's mustard yellow and ice-blue suits to kansai yamamoto's 'wonderland creature' leather leotard and 'tokyo pop' vinyl bodysuit.
my fantasy to be bowie's stylist has finally come true! all i needed was an x-acto knife to cut out the pieces, my bowie playlist, and a whole lotta dreaming.
damn, i miss him.

in celebration of my #creepycute21015 halloween adventures with the eerily talented jonathan lo of happy mundane, i'm embracing a 30-minute costume in pastel goth fashion.
behold - frankenbunny!
i admit, i'm queen of the lazy, last minute costume. it usually involves a mask and something vintage from my closet. nothing too advanced, but enough to get me into a costume-required party.
all that is needed for this quickie frankenbunny costume is the following:
1). pastel sweatshirt. i chose a long one in order to wear alone with tights, but you can chose a shorter one to wear with jeans or a skirt.
2). felt 9" x 12" sheets in pink, black, and white. available at most craft stores.
4). scissors.
5). round head straight pins.
6). pellon fusible web, iron, and damp cloth.
7). frankenbunny template printed onto 8.5" x 11" paper. DOWNLOAD THE PDF TEMPLATE HERE!
step 1: iron felt to fusible webbing. this adds weight to the felt makes it easy to iron your bunny directly onto your sweatshirt. see how to use fusible webbing here. it's soooooo easy!
step 2: after you have fused your felt, pin template to fabric. you may also draw the bunny design directly onto the paper side of the fusible felt and skip this pinning step.
step 3: cut bunny head shape.
step 4: iron pink and black felt to fusible webbing. cut bunny eyes, teeth, nose, and ear inserts.
step 5: place eyes, nose, teeth and ear inserts into white bunny head. iron and fuse them to head. again, consult this tutorial if you've never worked with fusible webbing.
step 6: place bunny design on your sweatshirt. pin design to your sweatshirt to determine placement. once you iron the bunny head on, it is FUSED, so do not skip this step! make sure you like the placement. iron frankenbunny onto sweatshirt.
step 7: optional: for added hold and safe washing, sew fused bunny onto sweatshirt using a small running stitch.
step 8: that's it! add black and white tights, a black parasol, and a pastel wig. oh, and false eyelashes, of course!
stay tuned for more creepy cute halloween from me and happy mundane this week!

kittens, marc jacob's ny fashion week party invite just arrived and i am RSVPing YES for you and me!
here's the skinny: marc's september soiree is a book launch for gloss: the work of chris von wangenheim. if you are not familiar with mr. wangenheim's photography you gotta check it out! his notorious lens captured the coke and lamé filled '70s better than anybody. his muses were the denizens of studio 54, supermodel gia, and dobermans. He was even the inspiration behind the 1978 film the eyes of laura mars, which is one of the trashiest (i.e. most fabulous) fashion photography/horror flicks ever made.
now, onto the party!
mr. jacobs' fashionable fete will honor chris von wangenheim with the swankiest, sickest, most sequined, and sans subtle dress code ever! in fact, he is so passionate about the party attire, he even specified it with all caps in his invite.
the instructions read:
STRICT DRESS TO KILL CODE WILL BE ENFORCED: FUR COATS OVER LINGERE, LIP GLOSS, JERRY HALL SIDE-SWEPT HAIR, SEQUINS, GOLD LAME TURBANS, PATTI HEARST SYMBIONESE LIBERATION ARMY GEAR, ROGUE, ROLLERINA CHIC, SHEER HAREM PANTS, MINI SKIRTS AND MUSCULAR LEGS, PLATINUM RECORDS AS HEAD GEAR, SEQUINS, GRACE JONES BUTCH REALNESS, GLOSS-Y SKIN, BLEACHED EYEBROWS, SLITS, RIDING IN ON A WHITE HORSE, SEQUINS, SKY HIGH STILETTOS, MIRRORED AVIATORS, METAL MESH, COWL NECKLINE HALTERS, OR EYES OF LAURA MARS CHIC. NO FLAT SHOES. NO MATTE SURFACES. NO NATURAL LOOKS.
let's unpack these looks, shall we?

oh hello, darlings! remember me? i remember you. and let me say, you've never looked more smashing!
i'm opening the WHORANGE doors today to shine a spotlight on matt fox and enrique crame, the magnificent proprietors of new york's fine and dandy shop. this year, they won halloween with their head-to-toe channeling of concierge gustave h and lobby boy zero moustafa from the grand budapest hotel.
the threads. the vintage luggage. the mendl's box. the 'staches. the attitude. wes anderson would be proud!
congratulations, matt and enrique! thank you for keeping halloween haute and for always bringing how-to handsome to us all.
xo
